Medical Acupuncture
What is it?
Medical acupuncture or dry needling is different to eastern acupuncture whereby in eastern acupuncture needles are inserted to particular areas to restore normal energy flow. With western medical acupuncture we use anatomy, physiology and current medical models with the goal of restoring normal muscle function, blood flow to the area and pain relief.

The needles stimulate the sensory nerves under the skin and within the muscles. This results in the body producing natural substances, such as pain-relieving endorphins. It can also increase normal functioning of the muscles by relaxing them and increasing local blood flow which can become reduced when muscles are chronically overused in sustained postures.
